The Ultimate Craft Room

HOME OFFICE AND CRAFT ROOM IN GROTON, MA

Designed in collaboration with Tricia Upton Interiors, this Groton craft room was built around the specific needs of a serious quilter who required both expansive work surface and highly organized storage. The design solution was thoughtful from the start: storage was built into the eaves around the perimeter of the room, making use of space that typically goes to waste, while the center desks were put on wheels so they can be reconfigured as the client's needs change over time.

That flexibility was a core requirement, and the two decisions work together to deliver it. The eave storage keeps materials, fabrics, and supplies organized and accessible without consuming the central floor space that a working quilter needs to spread out in. The wheeled desk configuration makes the room adaptable without requiring structural changes down the line, which matters for a household whose needs will continue to evolve.

Platt Cabinetry handled the built-in storage throughout, working closely alongside Tricia Upton Interiors and the client to develop solutions that were specific to how the room would actually be used. That level of collaboration, where the client's workflow is understood before anything is built, shows in how well the finished room functions as a dedicated creative workspace.

Properties in Groton, Harvard, and across the Nashoba Valley area often have the square footage to support a room like this, whether it is an attic, a finished bonus room, or a space that has been sitting underused for years. The difference between a room that works and one that doesn't usually comes down to whether the design started with how the space would actually be used.

Platt Builders works with homeowners throughout Groton and surrounding Nashoba Valley communities including Harvard, Ayer, Pepperell, and Littleton on custom home office and specialty room projects. If you have a space that needs to work around a specific hobby or creative practice, let's talk.
