Trapping The Mud
MUDROOM AND BUTLER'S PANTRY IN CONCORD, MA
This Concord project combines two hardworking spaces into one well-designed sequence. The butler's pantry anchors one end with a wine fridge and a dedicated countertop for drink prep, creating a practical setup for a household that entertains. Having a staging area separate from the main kitchen keeps things organized when guests are over. The mudroom picks up on the other end with a built-in bench and shelving that give everyone coming through the door a place to land.
The two functions sit alongside each other in a way that makes sense spatially. The butler's pantry handles what comes in from the store or cellar, and the mudroom handles what comes in from outside. Having both in the same run of space keeps that transitional zone of the house genuinely functional rather than a bottleneck.
Platt Cabinetry, our in-house millwork team, built custom cabinetry throughout both spaces, with consistent materials and craftsmanship running from the pantry built-ins through to the mudroom. The result is a space that looks cohesive and intentional from one end to the other.
Homes in Concord and across the surrounding Middlesex County communities often have the floor plan to support this kind of dual-function layout, but the design work has to be thought through carefully for it to function well. When the two spaces are planned together from the start rather than separately, the finished result reflects that.
Platt Builders works with homeowners throughout Concord and surrounding Middlesex County communities including Lexington, Carlisle, and Lincoln on custom mudroom and butler's pantry projects. If you have a transitional space that could be working harder, get in touch.
