Main Floor Multi-Tasker
BATHROOM REMODELING IN WAYLAND, MA
Designed in collaboration with Design Vision Interiors, this Wayland bathroom pulls off something that sounds straightforward but takes real thought to execute: a space that works as the only main floor bathroom and as an en-suite for a teenage daughter at the same time. The design had to feel grown-up enough for guests and personal enough for daily use by a young person with her own taste.
A soft blue color palette sets the tone throughout, giving the room a calm, cohesive base that the other design choices build on. Floral wallpaper brings cheerfulness and personality, reading as sophisticated in the context of the blue palette and silver hardware that runs through the fixtures and fittings. The combination is the kind of thing that looks effortless in the finished room and reflects careful decision making in the design process.
Getting that balance right required a design process where the two functions were held in tension from the start rather than resolved in favor of one over the other. Design Vision Interiors worked through the layering of florals, color, and hardware finishes with both audiences in mind, arriving at a room that serves a teenager's daily routine without signaling that to every guest who walks in. That is a harder brief to execute than it sounds, and the finished room handles it well.
Homes throughout Wayland and the surrounding Middlesex County communities often have a single main floor bathroom that has to do more than one job. A layout or finish that was designed for one function tends to shortchange the other. Starting with both in mind from the beginning is what makes the difference.
