Now That's An Entrance
ENTRYWAY REMODELING IN SUDBURY, MA
A two-story foyer has a lot of wall space to account for, and in this Sudbury Colonial home, that space was getting lost. The solution was layered millwork: trim and molding built up in a way that gives the walls structure, detail, and a sense of craftsmanship that carries through the full height of the entryway. Painted a creamy white, the millwork keeps the foyer feeling bright and open while giving it the kind of character that a plain painted wall simply does not have.
The project was designed by KT2 Design Group, and the collaboration shows in how deliberate the decisions feel. The profiles, the layering, and the scale relative to the space are details that have to be worked out carefully in the design process before anything gets built. On a two-story foyer, getting those proportions wrong is immediately visible, and getting them right is what makes the finished result feel inevitable rather than considered.
An entryway sets the tone for everything that follows it in a home. Getting it right matters more than most people expect, and this project makes a strong case for what thoughtful millwork can do to a space that has been underperforming its square footage.
Colonial homes throughout Sudbury and the broader MetroWest area often have two-story foyers that were built with the volume to make a strong first impression but finished in a way that never quite delivered on that potential. The bones are usually there. What the space needs is the detail work to match them.
