HOME ADDITION AND KITCHEN REMODELING IN ARLINGTON, MA

This Arlington project gave a young family more space in their 1930s Colonial without leaving the neighborhood they loved. Designed in collaboration with Sage Conti Design and Spacecraft Architects, the addition brought a new kitchen and family room to the back of the home, expanding the footprint in a way that opened the house up to the backyard and the views beyond it.

Upper cabinets were largely eliminated from the kitchen design, a deliberate choice that brings more natural light into the space and keeps the sightlines to the backyard play area open. For a family with young children, visibility to the yard from the kitchen matters day to day, and that decision shapes how the room actually gets used. Gold hardware runs consistently through the space, giving the kitchen a warmth and finish quality that carries through every detail.

Platt Cabinetry, our in-house millwork team, built custom cabinetry throughout, including a bar with mesh paneled retracting doors that keep the entertaining setup organized and accessible. An arched pocket door leads into a jewel box pantry, giving the kitchen a dedicated storage space that is as considered in its design as the rest of the room. It is the kind of detail that makes a kitchen genuinely easier to live with.

The addition also preserves what drew the family to the property in the first place. Views to the Boston skyline remain intact, a detail that mattered enough to plan around from the start. The expanded layout gives the household room to grow without giving up the community they were already rooted in, which for many Arlington families is the whole point.

Platt Builders works with homeowners throughout Arlington and surrounding communities including Lexington, Belmont, Medford, and Winchester on home addition and kitchen remodeling projects. If your home needs more space without a change of address, get in touch.
