Vintage Farmhouse

KITCHEN REMODELING IN GROTON, MA

This Groton kitchen was designed and built entirely by Platt Builders for a client with a deep appreciation for vintage design and the history of his antique farmhouse. The exposed beams carry the character and age of the home, and the design was built around preserving them. Everything else in the kitchen was chosen to work alongside that existing character rather than compete with it.

Platt Cabinetry, our in-house millwork team, built custom cabinetry throughout, with profiles, finishes, and hardware all selected with the overall integrity of the home in mind. The cabinetry feels like it belongs in the space, and the craftsmanship holds up alongside the history already present in the room. A concrete farmhouse sink anchors the kitchen with a material choice that suits both the vintage sensibility of the home and the practical demands of a working kitchen.

Knowing what to leave alone is as important as knowing what to change in a project like this. The exposed beams and the history they carry set the tone, and the design work was about filling in around them thoughtfully, bringing the kitchen up to a modern standard of function and craftsmanship while the bones of the original farmhouse remain front and center.

Antique farmhouses throughout Groton and the surrounding Nashoba Valley communities present a specific design challenge. The history is the asset, and any renovation that loses sight of that ends up with a kitchen that feels neither old nor new. Getting it right means starting with what is already there and designing outward from it.

Platt Builders works with homeowners throughout Groton and surrounding Nashoba Valley communities including Harvard, Ayer, Pepperell, and Littleton on custom kitchen remodeling projects. If you have a home with history worth preserving, get in touch.
