Breathing Room

MUDROOM REMODELING IN SUDBURY, MA

Designed in collaboration with KT2 Design Group, this Sudbury mudroom was expanded by taking over adjacent space and relocating the exterior door. That structural change gave the room enough square footage to actually function the way a busy household needs it to. Before the renovation it was a chaotic drop zone, and the expansion changed that entirely.

Platt Cabinetry, our in-house millwork team, built custom cabinetry throughout, with closed storage that keeps the daily clutter of coats, bags, and gear out of sight. The cabinetry includes ventilation holes built directly into the design, a practical consideration that keeps storage from trapping moisture and odors. It is the kind of thoughtful detail that reflects how carefully the room was planned from the start. Durable finishes throughout hold up to the traffic a mudroom like this absorbs on a daily basis.

The layout now connects four points of the home: the garage, the exterior door, the kitchen, and the back staircase, making it a genuine hub for how the household moves through the house. Getting in and out is smoother, and the room holds up under the pressure of a busy family schedule without showing it.

Mudrooms in Sudbury and across the MetroWest area are often the most structurally compromised rooms in the house, added on or retrofitted around an existing layout rather than planned from the start. When the square footage is genuinely wrong, the only real fix is a structural one. This project is a good example of what that correction makes possible.

Platt Builders works with homeowners throughout Sudbury and surrounding MetroWest communities including Wayland, Concord, Marlborough, and Framingham on custom mudroom remodeling projects. If your mudroom has been working against you, get in touch.
